Joe Mitchell

Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he heads a group of researchers in the Computational Geometry Lab. His group has projects with several companies, including Boeing, Sun Microsystems, Hughes Aircraft, Sandia Labs, Bridgeport Machines, and Syngen Corporation. Joe received a B.S. in physics and applied mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University, and completed a Ph.D. in Operations Research at Stanford University in 1986. He served on the faculty of the Cornell School of Operations Research and Industrial Engineering until 1991, when he moved to Stony Brook. He has received various research awards (NSF Presidential Young Investigator, and a Fulbright Research Award), as well as several teaching awards, including the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in teaching in 1996.
