Make a left onto Metlars Lane and go to 4th light and make a left (this is still Metlars Lane but eventually becomes South Washington Ave.). At the 2nd light make a right (this is still Metlars Lane) and go to next light. Make a right onto Stelton Road and go approx. .5 miles, Rite Aid is on the right side of road.

St. Peter's Medical Center: 254 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick, Phone: 745-8600; ~ 3 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett road to Metlars Lane. Make a right onto Metlars and go through the first traffic light and cross the Lynch Bridge. Take the first exit for George St. Go to the light on the top of the ramp and make a right on to Huntington Street. Go straight ~1.5 miles to a "T" intersection. The hospital is ahead and slightly to the right of you.
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJ): One Robert Wood Johnson Place, New Brunswick, Phone: 828-3000; ~ 3 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett road to Metlars Lane. Make a right onto Metlars and go through the first traffic light and cross the Lynch Bridge. Take the first exit for George St. Go through three traffic lights and make a right at the next block onto Somerset. Go through one traffic light and RWJ hospital is up 2-3 blocks up on the left.

Embel Laundromat (both self-serve and drop off service): 4993 Stelton Road (Hadley Center Shopping Plaza), South Plainfield; Hours: 7:00am-10:00 pm; ~ 5 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars Lane and go to 4th light and make a left (this is still Metlars Lane but eventually becomes South Washington Ave.). At the 2nd light make a right (this is still Metlars Lane) and go to next light. At the next light the Hadley Center will be directly ahead of you, make a left and then a right at the next light into the plaza. The laundromat is on the right side of the plaza (near the CVS).
Snowhite Cleaners: 4811 Stelton Road, South Plainfield, Phone: 756-1140; Hours: Mon. - Sat. 7:00 am-9:00 pm, Sun. 9:00 am - 4:00 pm; ~ 5 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars Lane and go to 4th light and make a left (this is still Metlars Lane but eventually becomes South Washington Ave.). At the 2nd light make a right (this is still Metlars Lane) and go to next light. Make a left and the cleaners will be up about .2 miles in a small strip plaza on the right.

Baptist - First Baptist of New Market: 450 New Market Road, Piscataway, Phone: 968-6290; ~ 6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left at the stop sign onto Metlars. Go through the first light but immediately take the jughandle on the right which will bring you onto Hoes Lane. Hoes Lane will eventually change names to Old New Brunswick Road. You will be on Hoes/Old New Brunswick for about 4 miles, eventually coming to a "T" intersection at Stelton Road. Make a left on to Stelton Road. Go ~.7 miles to the first traffic light (at aother "T" intersection) and make a left on to Lakeview Ave. Follow the road as it curves down and to the right. Cross the railroad tracks (the road becomes New Market Road) and the church is up one block on the left.
Jewish - Congregation Knesseth Israel: 229 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, Phone: 469-0934; ~ 6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Turn Right onto Metlars lane and go to first traffic light, make a right onto River Road (this is also route 18). After about 5 miles you will come to a "T" intersection at a traffic light, turn left on to Lincoln Blvd. The road turns 90 degrees to the right and then quickly 90 to the left, after the left turn stay in the left lane and make a left at the next intersection. Move to the right lane and make a right on to E Main Street. Go up to the second traffic light and make a right onto Mountain Avenue. Congregation Knesseth Israel is up three blocks on the left.
Lutheran - All Saints Lutheran Church: 5205 Deborah Drive, Piscataway, Phone: 463-1510; ~ 2 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a right onto Metlars and go to the first traffic light. Turn right right onto River Road (this is also route 18). Go stright through the next light and look for Rivercrest Drive on your right. Make a right on to Rivercrest Drive. Take the third right on to Deborah Drive. The church is 1/2 block up on the left
Methodist - Christ United Methodist Church: 485 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, Phone: 463-1517; ~ 2 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars and go straight through the first traffic light. Immediately exit to the right to pick up Hoes Lane. Go ~1.5 miles and the church will be on your right.
Muslim - Muslim Center of Middlesex County: 1012 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, Phone: 463-2004; ~ 1.5 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars and go straight through the first traffic light. Immediately exit to the right to pick up Hoes Lane. Go ~1 mile and the center will be on your left.
Presbyterian - Middlesex Presbyterian Church: 1190 Mountain Ave., Middlesex, Phone: 469-4498; ~ 6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars and go straight through the first traffic light. Immediately exit to the right to pick up Hoes Lane. Go ~ 3 miles and make a left onto Centennial Avenue. At the next light turn right on to Possumtown Rd. Follow Possumtown Rd ~1.6 miles to the third traffic light. Make a right at the light on to Lincoln Blvd. Go ~.5 miles on Lincoln Blvd. and make a left at the first light on to Mountain Ave. Go ~.5 miles on Mountain Ave. The church will be on the right.
Roman Catholic - Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church: 501 New Market Road, Piscataway, Phone: 968-5555; ~ 6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left at the stop sign onto Metlars. Go through the first light but immediately take the jughandle on the right which will bring you onto Hoes Lane. Hoes Lane will eventually change names to Old New Brunswick Road. You will be on Hoes/Old New Brunswick for about 4 miles, eventually coming to a "T" intersection at Stelton Road. Make a left on to Stelton Road. Go ~.7 miles to the first traffic light (at aother "T" intersection) and make a left on to Lakeview Ave. Follow the road as it curves down and to the right. Cross the railroad tracks (the road becomes New Market Road) and the church is almost immediately on the right.

Al Dente ($$$$): 1665 Stelton Road, Piscataway, Phone: 732-985-8220 (reservations recommended); Fine Italian cuisine.; ~ 6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Bartholomew Road (four-way stop sign). Make a right onto Bartholomew, proceed to the traffic circle. Go 3/4 around the circle and take the exit for Route 18. When the road splits bear left to Route 18 north. Don't merge onto Route 18, stay to the right and take the first exit, this will be Metlars lane. At the second light make a right onto Suttons Lane. Go about 1/2 mile and make a left onto Ethel Road. At the next light (intersection with Stelton Road) Al Dente will be across Stelton on your left in a small shopping plaza, it's a little hard to spot. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside... not too shabby! (p.s. hovering waiter alert)
Applebee's ($): 1282 Centennial Avenue, Piscataway, Phone: 562-0500; Kind of a southwestern menu. Pleasant environment.; ~ 5 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars. At the 3rd light make a left (this will still be Metlars Lane). Go through two traffic lights, immediately before the third light you will see Applebee's on the right in the Towne Center shopping plaza at the intersection of Centennial Ave. and South Washington Ave.
Bennigan's ($): 4901 Stelton Road, South Plainfield, Phone: 769-0380; A nice menu of American cuisine. Pub atmosphere.; ~ 6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Friendly's Family Restaurant ($): 1060 Stelton Road, Piscataway, Phone: 981-0628; ~6 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a left onto Metlars. At the 3rd light make a left (this will still be Metlars Lane). At the second light make a right (this will still be Metlars Lane). At the next light make a left onto Stelton Road. Make a u-turn at the next light and Friendly's is immediately on your right.
Lone Star ($$): 970 Route 22, Bridgewater, Phone: 526-8177; (this place can be quite busy at peak dinner hour. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations); A very good steakhouse. Ya just can't beat their baked sweet potatoes and their tumbleweeds (batter coated onions).; ~ 10 miles from DIMACS. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane. Make a right on River Road. Go ~4 miles to route 287. Take route 287 north to route 22 (east) (the ramp from 287 to 22 will be on your left). Go ~2 miles, Lone Star will be on your left (in the center strip between the east and wetbound lanes of 22).
Mad City Cafe & Grill ($$$): 1864 Arlington Ave., North Brunswick, Phone 732-297-3500; http://www.madcitycafe.com/; This is a very small restaurant so I don't recommend it for a large group, but the food is superb! It's a little out of the way but worth the trek.
Makeda ($$): 338 George Street, New Brunswick, Phone: 545-5115; Ethiopian cuisine. I can't describe it, but it's *goooood*, trust me.

Take Centennial Avenue to River Road. Turn right on River Road and go ~.2 miles to route 287 north. Take 287 north to the very next exit (exit 10) and take the branch to the left on the ramp for Easton Avenue towards New Brunswick (it will loop back around under route 287). Up about 2-3 miles, Pooja is on the left in a small shopping plaza just behind a McDonald's. You'll have to make a u-turn at the jughandle for JFK Blvd.

Go .7 miles (through 5 traffic lights). The restaurant will be on the left at the corner of 5th St. and Raritan Ave. There is parking behind the restaurant (turn left on 5th St. to get there).

The Village of Waterloo is a restored historic village (circa 1740-1870) sprawling over 5,000 acres. Thousands of visitors each year tour its historic homes and watch demonstrations in the Blacksmith Shop, Grist Mill, and Pottery Barn (to name a few). Another special attraction at Waterloo is the re-created Indian Village with its faithfully reproduced huts, longhouses, and dugout canoes representing the Lenape way of life in 1625.

The New Jersey State Museum is a general museum that collects, exhibits and interprets in four broad areas of interest: natural history, archaeology/ethnology, cultural history, and fine art.

The New Jersey State Museum features a four-level main building, an adjacent 416-seat auditorium, and an adjoining 150-seat state- of-the-art Planetarium.

All space on the first level of the main building is devoted to changing exhibitions. Other galleries allocated for short-term exhibitions are devoted to showcasing New Jersey Arts, as well as the New Jersey State Museum's permanent collections. This is a large flea market with merchandise spanning the spectrum from antique to "junktique". A nice way to spend the day. Open Thurs. - Sun., opens at 9:00am. Recommended that you arrive by 9:00 to get a parking space.

Going to the beach:

Take Brett Road, make a right onto Metlars. At the first light make a right onto River Road. Take River Road ~2 miles to route 287. Take route 287 south for about 10 miles and pick up the Garden State Parkway (GSP) going south. Pretty much every where you go there'll be a beach fee or parking fee of $3-$8. Below are only a few of the many beaches that comprise the Jersey shore. I've indicated the exit number from the Parkway and approximate total mileage. Count on very slow moving traffic. During the summer a 60 mile trip to the beach could take 2-3 hours at peak hours. Have fun, and don't forget the sunscreen!

Sandy Hook/Gateway National Recreation Area.: ~ 40 miles from DIMACS. GSP Exit 117. Take route 36 east for ~15 miles. The closest beach there is. This is a very popular place and can get quite crowded so get there early.
Point Pleasant: ~ 60 miles from DIMACS. GSP Exit 98. Take route 34 south/east about 8-10 miles to Point Pleasant.
Island Beach State Park: ~ 80 miles from DIMACS. GSP Exit 82. Take route 37 south/east about 6 miles towards Seaside Heights. Take route 35 south through Seaside Heights and you'll reach the park in 2-3 miles.

Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum - Rutgers University

The Zimmerli is home to the more than 10,000 pieces in the Norton and Nancy Dodge Collection of Nonconformist Art from the former Soviet Union and to the George Riabov (RC'51, GSNB'52) Collection of Russian Art, which ranges from 15th-century religious objects to 20th-century modernism. (No museum outside Russia covers more Russian art than the Zimmerli.) The International Center for Japonisme at the Zimmerli is known worldwide for its programs dedicated to the study of artistic and cultural influences between Japan and the Western world. Delaware Water Gap (Worthington State Foredt)

A good hike to Sun Fish Pond. A seriously steep grade with rocky terrain (hiking boots highly recommended) on the way up. High on top of the Kittatinny Ridge is a blue lake, Sunfish Pond, a relic of the Wisconsin Glacier, which reached its farthest extent about 18,000 years ago. The Appalachian Trail, which is heavily traveled in this area, passes along the eastern side of the lake. The path to the lake is wide and occasionally steep. Allow an hour and a half to go up and an hour to go down. You can hike all the way around the lake, a walk of 1.5 miles.

Road. Take River Road ~2 miles to route 287. Take route 287 north about 15 miles to route 202. Take 202 north about 1 mile to route 206. Take 206 north 16 miles to route 80. Take route 80 west about 22 miles, taking the last exit in New Jersey before the bridge across the Delaware, marked Millbrook-Flatbrook and "Delaware Water Gap Information Station." Bear north (right) on Old Mine Road for 3 miles. Park car on the left. Across the road, pick up the blue-blazed trail.

Take River Road ~2 miles to route 287. Take route 287 north to exit 26. Head south on North Maple Avenue. Continue to fork in road and bear left onto South Maple Ave. Just after passing Lord Stirling Park, turn left onto Lord Stirling Ave. This becomes White Bridge Road. About .5 miles after crossing the white bridge, turn left onto Pleasant Plains Road. The headquarters will be on the left.

To drive through the refuge. Take Brett Road to Metlars Lane and make a right onto Metlars. At the first light make a right on to River Road. Take River Road ~2 miles to route 287. Take 287 north (about 5 miles) to route 22 east. Route 22 east to Route 531/Watchung Ave. (about 5 miles). Take the jughandle on the right to make a left onto Watchung Ave. Follow the road about 5 miles (it will twist and turn and change names from Watchung Ave. to Hillcrest Rd. to Mountain Ave. and finally Meyersville Road. You'll need to make a left onto New Vernon Road which becomes Long Hill Road and these will take you through the refuge. Follow signs to parking and information centers.

High Point State Park
