This course is mainly focused on strategies for genetic mapping of human disease genes. The course is for researchers with little or no experience in using statistical genetic analysis programs. A basic knowledge of association and linkage analyses is, however, required. The primary focus of the course will be association analysis methods and next-generation sequencing statistical analysis methods for candidate loci and genome-wide association data (GWAS).

Topics are presented in a weeklong series of lectures and computer-based exercises led by leading experts in the field. Participants are provided all software and data for analysis, and perform all statistical analyses with the assistance of the instructors.

These workshops offer the opportunity for graduate students, junior faculty, mid-level and senior faculty, and government and industry professionals to advance their knowledge of statistical genetics analysis by applying the state-of-the-art statistical methods to the most currently available human genetic data. Participants also acquire materials and gain ideas for seminar presentations and for undergraduate research projects and have the opportunity to network with people from a variety of backgrounds.
