COCOA Talk: 2000-03
A Tryptych of Recreational Problems
Speaker: David Galvin
ABSTRACT
Abstract: I will present three problems of a recreactional nature, which
are probably not so significant in the greater scheme of things, but which
have piqued my interest very much over the years. I won't solve any of
them (because I amn't able to yet!), but I will present partial solutions
and suggestions for further improvement (at which point audience
participation will be encouraged!). The first problem concerns tiling a
chessboard with Knights, the second is about finding short sequences which
contain certain prescribed sequences as sub-sequences, and the third asks
"What shape is an equilateral triangle?"
