Fred Roberts Awarded Honorary Doctorate at University of
Paris-Dauphine
[June, 2013] On June 27, 2013, Fred
S. Roberts, Director Emeritus of DIMACS and Director of the
Command, Control and Interoperability Center for Advanced Data
Analysis (CCICADA), was
awarded the title and insignia of Honorary Doctor or ‘Docteur
Honoris Causa’ at the University of Paris-Dauphine. The
Honorary Doctorate Award Ceremony took place at the historic
Dauphine campus, located at the Porte Dauphine in central Paris.
Also honored was Joseph E. Stiglitz, Professor of Economics at
Columbia University and winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in
economics. The University of Paris-Dauphine is an
internationally recognized institution specializing in organization
and decision sciences.
Roberts was honored for his professional and scientific
achievements, which are characterized by a wide-ranging
interdisciplinary vision, as well as for the relationship that he
helped forge between DIMACS and the LAMSADE Center. LAMSADE
(the Laboratory for Analysis and Modeling of Decision Support
Systems) was established in 1974 as a joint laboratory of the
University of Paris-Dauphine and CNRS specializing in the decision
sciences. DIMACS and LAMSADE have collaborated on a variety of
activities and have organized many joint events during their
partnership of more than 10 years, including the 2010-2013 DIMACS Special
Focus on Algorithmic Decision Theory, jointly organized by
Roberts and LAMSADE director, Professor Alexis Tsoukias.
