Abstract:
Traditional surveillance was either passive or active in gathering the number of cases of a particular disease or outcome. Today, public health agencies use enhanced, sentinel and syndromic surveillance to monitor the public's health. Changes in the way data are gathered, linked and reported back to agencies make reporting faster than ever before, allowing emergency responses to possible threats rather than to clearly identified ones. This presentation will clarify where we are in terms of public health surveillance and where we are headed over the next few years.
