Title: Random walks and the lurking Riordan group

Abstract:

The Riordan group is a simple concept which nonetheless provides a framework for investigating combinatorial structures and decomposing them into simpler components. The Riordan graoup also pops up in unexpected places. In this talk we will run through some of the basic definitions and examples, then go to some of the less usual settings, and also discuss several open problems. This talk is designed to be accessible to graduate students.
