Abstract:
In World War 2, the Allies were interested in knowing how many tanks the Germans were building. This quantity was approximated using a statistical method which proved very accurate, and so the problem of estimating a population via sampling without replacement has become known as the German Tank Problem. We will analyze this problem and time permitting a few other related population estimate problems.
