Abstract:
At the start of his book, Herb Wilf said "A generating function is a clothesline on which we hang up a sequence of numbers for display". However, he also knew that the generating function was more than a merely a formal object. I will talk about some ways in which the analytic properties of generating functions relate to their associated sequences.
