Abstract: This talk will discuss how trust relationships are modeled and managed in the two most popular Web browsers, Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. There are two competing trust models, the shrink-wrap model and the Java model, each of which is supported by both browsers. We will compare the strengths and weaknesses of the models, and describe how each must evolve in order to survive. Finally, we will predict what kind of trust model will be supported by future browsers.
