Ramsey Theory is a fascinating, c. 100-year old field of mathematics (its roots go back to 1916). It has a non-empty intersection with combinatorics, number theory, geometry, ergodic theory, topology, etc. Yet, Ramsey Theory possesses its own unifying ideas. Its results are among the most beautiful theorems of mathematics. It is our hope, that this workshop will sum up the first century of the field, and provide an inspiration and problems for the next century of Ramsey Theory. The workshop will look at the emergence and history of the field (Yesterday), its results (Today), and a glimpse at the future of Ramsey Theory through its open problems, conjectures and aspirations of the participants (Tomorrow).
Invited talks in the mornings will be followed, for 3 days, by contributed research papers presented by the participants from the US, Europe, and the rest of the world. Please, send your proposed talk titles and 1-2 page abstracts in pdf to Alexander Soifer asoifer@uccs.edu . Proposals will be refereed and authors informed of the outcome. Deadline for proposals is the Tax Day, April 15, 2009 :-).
Springer has expressed interest in publishing a book based on the talks of this workshop.
