Presented under the auspices of the Special Year on Massive Data Sets.
We are witnessing a proliferation of applications that need to process large
amounts of
information. I/O between main and external memory is becoming an increasingly
significant
bottleneck. How, where and in what circumstances to involve the user are
central questions
and visualization may provide some of the answers. This workshop aims at
fostering the
cooperation among theoreticians and practitioners in the fields of External
Memory
Algorithms and/or Visualization. Papers are welcome on the following
topics(non-exhaustive)
as they relate to the workshop theme:
- Computational Models and Complexity
- I/O, Memory Allocation and System Integration
- Indexing Methods, Data Compression and Succinct Data Structures
- External Memory Algorithms in Graph Theory, Computational Geometry,
Combinatorics, Data Bases, Linear Algebra and Statistics
- Visualization Metaphors and Multiresolution Frameworks
- User Interfaces for External Memory Algorithms
- Integrated Systems: Examples and Applications
Workshop Format:
There will be invited speakers; formal paper presentations and a demo session.
These
presentations are designed to serve as catalysts for discussion. Participants
will have
the opportunity to edit and resubmit their papers for publication in a refereed special
AMS_DIMACS volume with the same workshop title.
Data Sets:
If there is enough interest, restricted access to some experimental data sets
will be provided to
authors of contributed papers. These data sets will contain between 10 and 250
million records.
Email List:
Send email to abello@research.att.com if you want to receive future workshop
announcements.
