Welcome to the resource page!

We expect you to arrive with a basic understanding of basic probability, matrix operations, and correlation.  For the basic probability and matrix operations, scroll down to the bottom of the page of: http://www.cs.ecu.edu/%7Ehochberg/DCI/MathPreProgram.html.

For correlation, go to:

http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/dci/2006/Lecture13_Correlation.pdf

In addition, here are some links related to the material you will encounter during the institute.  You DO NOT need to understand all of this before you arrive.  Get familiar with the terminology and basic concepts.  You may also want to return to some of these links during the program.

For odds ratios, see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odds_ratio

For conditional probability, start with Slide 5 of this PowerPoint presentation:

http://www.grossmont.net/irene.palacios/pp_notes/M160_lecture/ch_3_5.ppt

While not as friendly as we’ll be, here is a tutorial for Chi-Square:

http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/webtools/web_chi_tut.html#generalizing

At the end of the tutorial, there is a link to a page that gives you a chi-square calculator where you enter the data and it calculates it for you.  We will show you how to use a table to determine this value.

Here is material on Markov chains, but again, the tutorial at the institute will be much more user-friendly:

Since Tasha will be working with you on a Markov process in which some information is unknown (hidden), here is material on Hidden Markov Models.
