Fourth Annual K-12 Mega-Conference on Discrete Mathematics

Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey
Saturday December 8, 2001
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Program

For K-8 grade teachers who have not participated in the Leadership Program in Discrete Mathematics

There will be two introductory workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon:

What is Discrete Mathematics? (Morning)

This activity-based workshop will introduce participants to the topic of discrete mathematics through the exploration of five major themes. If you want to know what discrete mathematics is, what it can do for our students, and why its topics belong in every math classroom of the 21st century -- this is the talk for you! No previous knowlege of discrete mathematics is assumed.

Patterns in Nature and Numbers (Afternoon)

Patterns are all around us. In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore an intriguing set of natural patterns, become captivated by their multiple occurrences in the world and begin to understand and unravel how these patterns relate to one another mathematically.

The cost of the conference is $100 (including continental breakfast and lunch).

Hotel accommodations are available at a reduced rate for those attending the Mega-Conference. You may indicate your housing needs on the Registration Form.

The registration deadline for those needing hotel accommodations is November 20th, otherwise the deadline is November 27th.

Professional development certificates will be available for participants of the Mega-Conference.
