NEW JERSEY MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE COALITION
|
The New Jersey Mathematics and Science Coalition was established on March 1, 2007, replacing the New Jersey Mathematics Coalition that was founded in 1991. The mission of the New Jersey Mathematics and Science Coalition is to draw together all sectors of the community — education, public policy, business and industry, and the public — in a sustained multi-faceted statewide effort to improve mathematics and science education in the state, and to increase public awareness of the importance of mathematics and science to the future of New Jersey's children. Click here to view the Coalition's proposed mission statement. The Coalition is an independent organization, governed by a Board of about 60 members, including approximately fifteen scientists and science educators, fifteen mathematicians and math educators, and 30 people with a strong interest in education from the business, policy, and public sectors of the community. The Board meets three times a year. The Chair of the Board is Martin S. Friedman. Click here for a list of members of the Board of Governors. The business of the Coalition is conducted by an Executive Committee. The programs and policies of the Coalition are developed by its committees, currently the Public Policy Committee (co-chaired by Janet Caldwell and Jeff Osowski) and the School Practices Committee (co-chaired by Eric Milou and Sharon Sherman). The Coalition is the New Jersey affiliate of the National Alliance of State Science and Math Coalitions (NASSMC).
