Users can't use Link

I compiled Link under gcc 2.7.2 as root. When logged in as a user,
link gives the following error message when it is started:

"main-window" is not an existing file on the system. The relevant path
for the user and root seems to be the same.

Anyone else run into this, or have ideas for a solution?
