I am writing to inform you of plagiarism which has
occured in a paper published in a journal of which you
are an editor, the Journal of Discreet Appplied
Mathematics. The title of the paper is "Path
Optimization in Graph Partitioning" by Mark K.
Goldberg and Jonathan Berry.
Over a period of several years prior to the first
appearance of the papers by Goldberg and Berry on the
subject, a series of papers was privately circulated
on using alernating chains to solve NP-Complete
problems. Mark Goldberg was one of the persons to whom
one of these papers was sent. He was asked if he
whould be interested in a collaboration but indicated
that he had no such interest. A couple of years later
however papers authored by Mark Golberg and Jonathan
Berry began to appear expressing precisely the ideas
contained in the paper sent to Goldberg. No
acreditation was cited anywhere in goldbergs papers
for these ideas. Goldberg was asked about this but
claims that he remembers nothing about the paper sent
to him nor telephone conversations regarding the
subject.
We believe that if were a thorough investigation to
be conducted the evidence against Mark Goldberg would
prove to be very conclusive. However we would like to
resolve this issue without a lawsuit. Can you inform
us if the journal employes any formal mechanisms for
investigating charges of plagiarism. Does the journal
have any legal responsibility to investigate charges
of plagiarism?
Sincerely
Jacob Moskowitz
