  • Abstract:

    Picture this: you're playing a dynamical system game where you move poker chips around and there is some mystical connection to spanning trees. As an aspiring matroid enthusiast, you ask the age old question: "Can we generalize this result to matroids?". The issue is that matroids don't know anything about vertices so you're going to have to find a way to put the chips on edges instead. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the definition of homology appears in the wild! Homology always seemed a bit too abstract to parse, but now here it is, playing your chip game with you and finally you are willing to consider yourselves friends!
