  • Abstract:

    With the rapid rise of AI, a host of new ethical issues present themselves: biases in algorithms, effects on the future of work, whether we will someday have conscious robots, just to name a few.

    Join us with our distinguished panel of authors, academics, and industry leaders to discuss these deeply important issues.

    In a reception to follow, we will also be celebrating Rutgers alum, Susan Schneider, in the launch of her new book, Artificial You. The reception will have food and refreshments and will be held on the 6th Floor West Wing in the Rutgers Academic Building.

    We anticipate this to fill up and seats are limited so we suggest RSVPing here as soon as possible!

    Panelists

    • David Pennock, Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research New York City. Dr. Pennock's research is in the economics and computation area of artificial intelligence. He was the founding Assistant Director of MSR-NYC, overseeing research groups in five areas: computers that learn, computers in society, computers in the economy, computer systems, and the ethical ramifications of computing.
    • Susan Schneider, Associated Professor in Philosophy and Cognitive Science, and Distinguished Scholar Chair for the Library of Congress. Dr. Schneider, author of Artificial You, writes about the fundamental nature of the self and mind, especially from the vantage point of issues in philosophy, artificial intelligence, and astrobiology.
    • Vivek Singh, Assistant Professor, School of Communication and Information. Dr. Singh directs the Behavioral Informatics Lab, where his research group focuses on using mobile phones, sensors, and social media for understanding and influencing human behavior.
    • Lindsey Zuloaga, Director of Data Science, HireVue . Dr. Zuloaga has a PhD in Physics, and leads a team at HireVue in developing AI software that facilitates companies in recruiting and interviewing candidates.
