  • Abstract:

As information and computing technologies and their use to collect, analyze, and use data become increasingly pervasive, so too does the concern about the privacy of sensitive information. In order to fulfill the promise of these technologies to improve lives and make advances in areas such as health care, energy, smart communities, and homeland security, it is necessary to ensure that privacy protections are built in to the solutions. Various privacy solutions have been put forth to protect the privacy of individuals while still enabling the use of data in many applications, but many privacy challenges remain. In this talk, I will provide a brief overview of the privacy landscape, talk about some of my privacy-related research, and highlight privacy concerns and tradeoffs in contact tracing related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
