- Abstract:
There is significant excitement about when quantum computing will first become useful. Quantum computer simulation of quantum mechanical systems such as molecules is a leading use case. The mapping of Hamiltonian simulation problems into quantum computer programs phrased as quantum circuits has been well established for decades. But now that integrated quantum computers actually exist, the computers are actually limited in capacity, accuracy, and require classical computer networking to harness the quantum simulation results. This talk summarizes my research group's journey in mapping the simulation problems into quantum programs, in running the programs across networked quantum computers, and in optimizing the programs to minimally expressive enough to perform the simulations.
