- Abstract:
It is a known fact that the partial sums of some trigonometric series generate appealing patterns when plotted as points in the complex plane. The usual explanation is based on variants of the stationary phase approximation employed in analytic number theory. In a simple case, the theory predicts an Archimedean spiral, but the computer shows a very different experimental truth. It turns out that at least for integer values of a parameter the computer plot can be explained solving a curious recurrence relation.
