  • Abstract: Let A be an n by n matrix consisting of only zeros and ones. What is the maximum possible value of its determinant? This is known as the Hadamard maximum determinant problem and dates back to 1893 and is well studied. In this talk we will discuss what bounds we can give for the maximum determinant when A is sparse. That is, it is a zero-one matrix, but with only a few ones.
