SHELL OIL'S NATIONAL SCIENCE TEACHING AWARD

Scope: Shell Oil Co. and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
honor a K-12 classroom science teacher who has had a positive impact on
his/her students through exemplary science teaching.

Deadline: Nov. 15

Funds: One award of $10,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to NSTA's
national convention. Two finalists also receive all-expense-paid trips to
NSTA's convention.

Eligibility: Elementary and secondary classroom science teachers. Nominees
must have taught science for at least five years and must teach in the
United States or at Defense Department-dependent schools.

AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION AWARD

Scope: The Amerian Water Works Association and the National Science
Teachers Association (NSTA) honor elementary and secondary school schience
teachers who develop instructional programs or innovative projects using a
multicultural approach that encourage students to explore and enjoy
sciences related to drinking water.

Deadline: Nov. 15

Funds: One award of $1000 and up to $500 to attend the NSTA national
convention.

Eligibilty: Elementary and secondary science teachers.

BARRICK GOLDSTRIKE EXEMPLARY ELEMENTARY EARTH SCIENCE TEACHING AWARD

Scope: Barrick Goldstrike Mines Inc. and the National Science Teachers
Association (NSTA) honor elementary science teachers who demonstrate
exemplary earth science teaching skills, especially environment or geology
education.

Deadline: Nov. 15

Funds: One winner receives a $3500 computer system; $2500 for earth
science materials and equipment for the wardee's school; an
dall-expense-paid trip to NSTA's National Convention and an
all-expense-paid trip to the Nevada Mining Association's Minerals
Education Workshop for teachers.

Eligibility: Full-time elementary science teachers.

Scope: Ciba-Geigy Corp. and the National Science Teachers Association
(NSTA) honor an elementary science teacher who has demonstrated
exemplaryscience teaching practices.

Deadline: Nov. 15

Funds: One $1000 award, a one-year membership to the Council for
Elementary Science International and NSTA and up to $500 to attend NSTA's
national convention.

Eligibility: Full-time elementary science teachers.

Scope: Ciba-Geigy Corp. and the National Science Teachers Association
(NSTA) honor an elementary school principal who has demonstrated
dedication to and leadership in developing, implementing and maintaining
outstanding elementary science programs.

Deadline: Nov. 15

Funds: one $1000 Award a one year membership to the Council for Elementary
Science International and NSTA and up to $500 to attend NSTA's national
convention.

Eligibility: Elementary school principals.

Funds: One middle school and one high school teacher each will receive
$1000 awards, a one year membership to NSTA and up to $500 to attend
NSTA's national convention.

DRUG, CHEMICAL & ALLIED TRADES ASSOCIATION EDUCATION FOUNDATION'S MAKING A
DIFFERENT AWARD

Scope: The Drug, Chemical & Allied trades Association Education Foundation
and NSTA recognize an innovative middle school science program taht
motivates students to explore science and its applications to global
problems.

Deadline: Nov. 15

Funds: One $2500 ward to enhance or expand the winning science program.
The winning school's lead science teacher and principal also receive
airfare adn one night's accommodation at NSTA's national convention.

Eligibility: Innovative middle school science programs, grade 6-8
