October 5, 2006 Mixer at DIMACS

On October 5, we have an exciting program, featuring talks by a number of DIMACS people. A program is available at http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Events/2006/program-mix1.html. One of the high points will be a talk by Greg Sorkin from IBM. This talk is not only part of the Mixer program, but is also a special kickoff talk for the Discrete Random Systems Special Focus. Details of this special focus may be found at: http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/SpecialYears/2005_DRS/index.html. The title of the talk is "Phase Transitions in Optimization Problems and Algorithmic Implications." A second exciting talk will be given by Mark Goldberg of Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute. The title of this talk is "Clusters in a Multigraph with Elevated Density".

There will also be talks by Andre Amaral, a Rutcor postdoc, Ioannis Avramopoulos, a Princeton postdoc, Neeraj Kayal an IAS postdoc, Vijay Ramachandran a postdoc from Stevens Institute, and Seshadhri Comandur a Princeton graduate student. Abstracts of the talks may be found at http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Events/2006/mix1-abstracts.html.

The program starts with registration and coffee from 10:30am - 11:00am. Introductory remarks and general introductions will occur from 11am - 11:20am, and will be followed by Greg Sorkin's talk. Lunch will be served following this talk, and Mark Goldberg will speak right after lunch. The Mixer will be held on the 4th floor of the CoRE Building at Rutgers. In order to plan for the luncheon, we would appreciate your letting us know in advance of your intention to come for lunch. Please RSVP to Nicole Clark (nicolec@dimacs.rutgers.edu) by September 29, 2006. Those who do not RSVP are still welcome, but we would appreciate your giving us your intentions in advance. There is no registration fee for any DIMACS mixer.

Full details of the program, including abstracts, are displayed at http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Events/2006/program-mix1.html

Directions on how to reach DIMACS may be found at http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Directions/Directions1.html.
